Mt.Seorak National Park - Hiking Dinosaur Ridge
TAGY Travel Korea
Gongnyong(Dinosaur) Ridge is a mountain ridge in Seoraksan National Park, located in Gangwon Province, South Korea. It is the central ridge of Seoraksan, dividing it. The ridge earns its name due to the mountain peaks in the ridge looking as "vigorous and dynamic as a dinosaur rising from the ground". The Gongnyong Ridge was formed from the Jurassic-era granite of Seoraksan being shaped over the years due to tectonic shifts and erosion.
It has earned much recognition because of its beauty, both from domestic and international sources, such as being labelled the most scenic location among the national parks of South Korea.
Tour description
Seorakdong
Madeungnyeong Pass
Dinosaur Ridgeline
Cheonbuldong valley
Your hiking trip begins at 06:00 am. Your guide will pick you up and head to the Seorakdongong which is the entrance of Soraksan mountain. The ride takes about three hours from Seoul. You will start the hike at around 09:00 am at Seorakdong. It’s 6.5 kilometers from the Seorakdong to Madeungnyeong pass where Dinosaur ridge starts. About 3.5 of those kilometers are spent climbing up stairs and rocks over beautiful views. The ridge itself is only 5 kilometers long. However, it takes at least four hours because there are many up and down paths between the rocky hills and the rope section. However, since this is a national park, it is well-equipped, well-managed, and not very dangerous. There are incredible views to be had up there, and you’ll be happy you challenged yourself and went. The Yangpok route is a popular choice for a decent following an adventure on Dinosaur Ridge. The trail gets its name from a waterfall of the same name along the route. It follows Cheonbuldong valley back to the Seorakdong park entrance.
